Hi and welcome to December’s lesson: Monthly Fundraising Routines to Start The Year Off Right. This month we are learning routines to add to your day, month, and year that will help you raise more money.
This month is a busy month for nonprofits- both professionally and personally. Because Nonprofit Nation is here to help, I’m keeping this lesson short and sweet. You can watch this video at the start of the month or anytime during the month and implement when it’s right for you. I would recommend that you check this lesson out before you begin planning your January or 2021.
Why you need to do it:
Fundraising builds on itself. Have you ever suddenly had fundraising success that seemed like magic? Over the course of a week, everything just came together and you might have thought it was raining money and good fortune. It’s great when it happens. When you really think about it, you will trace those magical moments back to the fundraising routines that you have been doing for months or years. Fundraising and relationships are cumulative. Every activity builds on itself.
What you actually need to do:
I have one checklist to get you started this month- the Monthly Fundraising Checklist. It is broken down into 11 categories- Fundraising Management, New Donors, Donor Acknowledgement, Direct Mail, Special Events, Grants, Major Gifts, Lapsed Donors, Newsletter, Marketing, and Miscellaneous. Your organization may not be ready for some of these categories and that’s okay. Find the categories that you are doing and add at least one new to-do to your monthly list. Remember, you have all month to get these things done so schedule them and take them as they come. Most items will take just a few minutes to complete. Adding just one activity to your existing to-do list and continuing to do it every month will give you results. This isn’t meant to be overwhelming.
If you are ready for a category but haven’t done anything towards building that category, use the space to think through the first three steps you need to take this month to begin the activity. If you need help, reach out to me. We can get on a call and talk things through. It’s a benefit of being a member.
